Wide-Angle-Tail (WAT) Radio Sources

چکیده

We review the properties of Wide-Angle-Tail (WAT) radio sources. The WAT sources are powerful, bent typically associated with dominant galaxy in a cluster or group. For purpose this review, we define morphology WATs as (1) sudden jet-tail transition, (2) overall bending tails to one side, and (3) non-parallel tails. mechanism for rapid transition is uncertain but it seems occur near from host ISM ICM. may make jets easier bend. narrow range luminosity can be understood if there minimum required allow propagate undisturbed tens kpc maximum jet disruption act. hosted by brightest galaxies clusters which currently merging. Thus, used tracers merging clusters. produces large-scale bulk motions ICM provide sufficient ram pressure bend jets. suggest that although Lorentz force not WATs, relevant other sources, e.g., protostellar

GMRT detection of a new wide - angle tail ( WAT ) radio source associated with the galaxy PGC 1519010

We report the serendipitous detection of a Wide-Angle-Tail (WAT) radio galaxy at 240 and 610 MHz, using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). This WAT is hosted by a cD galaxy PGC 1519010 whose photometric redshift given in the SDSS DR6 catalog is close to the spectroscopic redshifts (0.105, 0.106 and 0.107) of three galaxies found within 4 ′ of the cD. Using the SDSS DR6 we have identifi...

Uncovering High-z Clusters Using Wide-Angle Tailed Radio Sources

The morphologies of wide-angle tailed (WAT) radio sources (edge-darkened, C-shaped, FR I radio sources) are the result of confinement and distortion of the radio lobes by the dense X-ray-emitting gas in clusters or groups of galaxies. These radio sources are easily seen at high redshifts (z ∼ 1) in short-exposure images from the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-cm (FIRST) survey. Using a...

A Wide Angle Tail Radio Galaxy in the Cosmos Field: Evidence for Cluster Formation

We have identified a complex galaxy cluster system in the COSMOS field via a wide angle tail (WAT) radio galaxy consistent with the idea that WAT galaxies can be used as tracers of clusters. The WAT galaxy, CWAT-01, is coincident with an elliptical galaxy resolved in the HST-ACS image. Using the COSMOS multiwavelength data set, we derive the radio properties of CWAT-01 and use the optical and X...

Estimating the Number of Wideband Radio Sources

In this paper, a new approach for estimating the number of wideband sources is proposed which is based on RSS or ISM algorithms. Numerical results show that the MDL-based and EIT-based proposed algorithm havea much better detection performance than that in EGM and AIC cases for small differences between the incident angles of sources. In addition, for similar conditions, RSS algorithm offers hi...

Jets , plumes and hot spots in the wide - angle tail source 3 C 130

I present 1.5and 8.4-GHz observations with all configurations of the NRAO VLA of the wide-angle tail source 3C 130. The source has a pair of relatively symmetrical, wellcollimated inner jets, one of which terminates in a compact hot spot. Archival ROSAT PSPC data confirm that 3C 130’s environment is a luminous cluster with little sign of sub-structure in the X-ray-emitting plasma. I compare the...
